Estate Administration Costs
Estimate estate administration costs by channel — official fees, legal costs and incidental costs such as title searches and transfer registration.
JKPTG order fee: free for values of RM50,000 and below; 0.2% for RM50,001 and above.
Incidental costs (editable)
Official land search certificates, title copies, death certificates.
Nominal JPPH fee for small estates; private valuers charge RM1,000 – RM5,000 for real property.
Estate transfers to heirs incur only nominal stamp duty.
Newspaper notices RM300 – RM800 if required; affidavits & document translation extra.
Which channel is correct?
- Small Estate (JKPTG) — estate value not exceeding RM5 million with at least one immovable asset (land/house). The cheapest; heirs can apply themselves without a lawyer.
- Amanah Raya — movable assets only (money, EPF, shares, vehicles) worth no more than RM600,000. Fees follow a tiered schedule.
- High Court — value exceeding RM5 million, with a will (probate), or complex/disputed cases. Requires a lawyer; the most expensive.
Important notes
- Estate administration costs may be funded from the estate with the heirs' consent, as they serve the interest of all heirs (see AL-KAFI #1472, Federal Territories Mufti's Office).
- Estate transfers to heirs are exempt from ordinary stamp duty — only nominal duty applies.
- All figures are estimates; actual rates are subject to the current official JKPTG / Amanah Raya / court schedules.
- For reference only. For specific cases, consult the mufti's office / Amanah Raya / the estate administrator.
